Navidad Valley CattleWomen held their 12th Annual Ranch Run on August 2, 2025 in conjunction with the Schulenburg Festival with 122 runners and walkers participating this year.

The morning started very early for the volunteers which included members, family, and friends along with past, current, and future scholarship recipients. Additionally, the run was chip timed by Run Texas Timing Services. The 5K kicked off bright and early at 7:30 am at Wolter’s Park.

The fastest male was Ty Lewis of Sheridan and the fastest female was Avery Lewis, also of Sheridan. Immediately after the 5K there was a 1-mile fun run. Full race results may be found on the race website and on the NVCW Facebook page. The 10U Fastest Male was Tripp Brown. The 11-19 Fastest Male was Levy Herrera and the 11-19 Fastest Female was Ellie Hammack. The fastest adult was Judy Falke. Back by popular demand were the family reunion themed prizes. The most “seasoned” athlete in the 5K was Jimmy McIntire and the youngest participant was Matthew McGee. They both received steak seasoning and dried beef goodie bags. The largest family group with 8 participants was the Hollas crew who received a $50 Beef Gift Certificate and a beef cookbook. The athlete that travelled the furthest, Branden Dierschke, drove all the way from Mason and received a Pilot gas gift card to help buy gas for the drive home.

The funds raised due to the generosity of sponsors and the success of this event will be awarded to graduating seniors from Fayette, Lavaca and Colorado counties with an interest in Agriculture next school year. There will also be collegiate scholarships provided to college-aged students who are juniors, seniors or graduate students. Navidad Valley CattleWomen have presented over $115,000 in scholarships since they first awarded scholarships in 2005. The Navidad Valley CattleWomen, a local chapter of the Texas Cattlewomen, is a non-profit organization that supports and promotes the beef industry.

The Navidad Valley local works to support local youth with scholarships and provide quality information on the industry and how to incorporate beef into a healthy diet. Additionally, they work to support the community with targeted outreach projects that include a beefy twist.
